Wiki Trails: From Yoga to Awadhi

After reading another classmate's story site, I decided to check out the page on Yoga, because it has similar origins as these epics we're reading.

In the etymology section of this article, I was curious about this link titled Epic Sanskrit and got really excited. This took me to the interesting article on Indian Epic Poetry.  Here, I learned all about the Indian Epics, some of the ones we're reading for class were discussed here, as well.

From here, I found interest in Hindi.  I decided to read this article because I really don't have a strong background of knowledge in non-western religions.  I really loved learning more about this rich culture and found interest in a link called Awadhi language.  It always comes back to language for me and I really enjoyed learning more about this fascinating language and I'm definitely bookmarking it and coming back to read more later.

Extra Reading: Ramayana Part B

For this second chunk of Ramayana, I got to read about some really interesting parts of the story. Rama heads into exile and his brother is angry at his mother for her plots to make him king.  Bharata rules as regent until Rama returns.  Bharata and Rama In the forest, Rama meets Shurpanakha and tells him she wishes to marry him.  She starts planning to kill her rival Sita and then is captured.  Her capture, Lakshmana mutilates her and then Shurpanakha calls Kara to attack Rama.  Rama defeats them all, though. This section, along with the previous section remind me so much of the feel of the Avatar the Last Airbender Universe.  I think it would be really fitting to tell the stories as if the characters were from that universe.  This show was created with so many parts based off of different Asian cultures, so it wouldn't be stretch to fit it in.

Growth Mindset: Cats

Failure hurts, but it does not define me I have had a lot of unexpected problems this semester and it has affected some of my grades.  For one of my courses, I have had to accept the fact that it isn't going to turn out how I wanted, but it's going to be okay.  It's time to accept it and move on. Not sure what to do next?  Look in a book. Studying for finals always makes us realize there are a lot of questions we still have about these subjects.  I feel like I have read my textbooks twice as much the last few days as I did each week.  You'd think we would know the subjects better at this point in the semester.

Week 12 Reading B: Ramayana Part 4

I decided to go back and finish up the rest of Ramayana for today.  I am so glad I did!  This epic has honestly been one of my favorite reads this year and it was so good to finally finish up my notes over it. A lot happened in the fourth section of this story, but I enjoyed the part where Rama tests Sita the best.  I thought there were a lot of interesting things going on and it would be easy to include them in another story based off of the Avatar the Last Airbender universe.  Sita is so sure of her words in claiming purity, that she jumps into a fire.  I think it is a little ridiculous that Rama has to make sure his bride is still pure.  But, once the god of fire, Agni extinguishes the flames and tells them her words are true, Rama believes it.  The gods are confused by Rama's actions to prove Sita's purity and Brahma comes to discuss things with him.  I'm not sure what part of the Avatar story I'm going to mix with this to create a new one, ...
