Week 11 A: Reading Krishna Part 2

Image
Brahma from Wikipedia This week I watched the rest of  Epified TV videos about Krishna .  My favorite part out of this section was the part called Krishna Humbles Brahma.  I thought this story was so interesting.  The creator, Brahma ends up respecting Krishna after witnessing his powers.  As someone unfamiliar with non-western religion, it seems amazing that the creator would be humbled by someone else.   I also thought it really cute how Krishna responds to Brahma's trick of hiding all the cow herds.  Krishna simply makes new versions to replace the stolen ones so that the village could continue on.  When Brahma reappears, he finds that everything seems normal.  After looking closer he sees that everything is Krishna.  This is what makes him respect and be humbled by Krishna. Reading Krishna Part A

This week I watched the Epified TV videos about Krishna .  I really loved getting to see this beautiful artwork bring the story to life as it's being narrated.    Krishna is one of the Hindu deities that I have actually heard of.  Krishna is one of the main ones and is very popular.  It was so interesting listening to the story of how he was born.  As soon as he was born, his parents knew immediately how powerful and sacred he was.  I feel like the interesting drawings really add to the story and bring out the details of the story that would go unnoticed if just reading.  I think for my next story, I want to find lots of little pictures that bring out some little things in the story, but it will be hard to find the balance. I think it would be really cool to retell the story with the Avatar the Last Airbender theme again.  I think it would be neat if I told his birth story as if Krishna is the next life of the avatar. The Banishment

As Prince Zuko entered the grand hall of the palace, the celebrations over took him.  He noticed the relics from the Earth Kingdom that were on display in the center of the room.  Speaking with his uncle, Prince Zuko marveled at the delicate decorations on these artifacts.  He discussed with his uncle how it is almost tragic to take such beautiful pieces of history away from their people, even if taking them was a symbol of his own nation's power.   Prince Zuko's sister, Princess Azula, overheard this conversation and immediately decided to tell their father about what Zuko had said.  Princess Azula has always been incredibly jealous of her brother for no reason other than he was the first born, so he would inherit the title.  Princess Azula knew Zuko's words would cause their father to be angry and outraged at his own son's words.   After telling Firelord Ozai, Azula and Zuko's father, Princess Azula tried very hard to hide a smile from crossing her face.  Firelo

Reading A: Mahabharata

Image
This week I read Myths of the Hindus and Buddhists: Mahabharata by Sister Nivedita. The first half of this was really fun to read. Drona trains the prince's after he shows them his supernatural abilities. I feel like most of the first section was build up and background to bigger things. My favorite part form this half was The House of  Lac. The part about the princes being banished would be so much fun to write with Zuko's banishment from Avatar the Last Airbender. If I don't find something more interesting in the second half, that's probably the way I will go. Sunset photo taken by me

Week 8 Progress

"Exhausted" photo by me of my dog Maggie So far this semester, I haven't been keeping up with this class very well. I'm hoping that I can crank out each assignment better and still end on a good note. The rest of my classes this semester are wearing me out with how demanding they are. I think I finally have gotten the hang of this semester and can post better work from here on out. I plan on making up a lot of missed assignments with a ton of extra credit work.

Week 8 Comments and Feedback

Image
Feedback In: So far this semester, I feel that all the comments I have received have been incredibly helpful.  Everyone is good about not only discussing the parts that they like about my stories, but also what can be improved.  My classmates are great about being respectful when they offer suggestions or corrections. Feedback Out: I think that I try to balance my comments each time I offer them.  I always try to point out at least one big positive part about their work and then offer suggestions on how to improve, without being rude or mean about it.  Reading other people's work and noticing little things that might work for them better have given me some ideas on how to improve my own work. Blog Comments: I love the blog comments we do each week.  It is so nice to get to read the "About Me" pages on my classmates and get a sense of who we all are.  I also really like to look around at their other posts and see ideas for reading notes and how they use the extra cr

Wiki Trails: From Mahabharata to Ancient Greek

Modern Depiction of Vyasa narrating the Mahabharata I decided to check out the  Mahabharata  Wikipedia page to get some more information on this story.  In this article, I learned a lot about the history of the story and wrote down some really interesting little facts about it to possibly add to my next stories. In this story, I found a link to  Panini .  I have no reason that I clicked this link, other than the fact that I was eating a sandwich while going down the Wikipedia rabbit hole and this caused me to follow the food sounding page. Who doesn't love a good panini? On this page, I learned that Panini was a 4th Century BCE Indian scholar who was mainly interested in grammar and linguistics. So, my stomach led me to the linguist! This guy is actually super fascinating and I am going to mention him in some of my linguistic classes to find out more from my professors. In this article, I saw a link to  Ferdinand de Saussure , another anthropologist/linguist.  I have act

Week 8 Reading and Writing

Image
I am in the process of making my website for my project look better and I think it will really improve the stories that are posted there.  Over this week, I will be adding an introduction page to add more backstory to the setting of my stories and also explain the inspiration a bit more. The Ramayana was my favorite epic that I've read so far and it has really influenced the path I am taking for my project.  I will need to further develop my reading notes going forward to help me when I go to write more stories to add to my blog and my project website.  I need to make sure I include some of the smaller details from the readings in my notes, so I can add them here and there in my stories that I write. Moving forward, I am going to work harder to develop some really great stories to add to my assignments for the course.  I will be doing a lot of the Wiki Trails assignments to help me get more information to add as little details in my stories.  I am excited to see how my website
